  • The anatomy structures which are relative to Orthodontics
  • Orthodontic records
  • The classification of malocclusion
  • The treatment and appliances of orthodontics
  • Orthodontic cross infection
  • Laboratory skill set
  • Stock control of orthodontics
  • All medico-legal aspects of orthodontics
  • Oral health in relation to the care and management of appliances
  • Interdisciplinary care
  • A record of experience is created to provide the records for all activities completed to assist specific learning experiences.

The exam is a 90 minute written exam which consists of a part A (20 multiple choice questions) Then a part B (3 short structured questions)

Information on where your exam will be held; will be supplied to you.

Section 1 - Log Sheets
All candidates must complete the log sheets to provide the correct evidence of thier involvement in the care of; A total of 50 patients, which should include 5 cases which must be functional appliances, then a minimum of 10 being fixed appliances and at least 10 being removable appliances.
Section 2 - Case Studies
2 case studies required, totaling 2000 words on each one relating to;

  • 1 patient undergoing an orthodontic treatment which is requiring an interdiscplinary approach.
  • the advice to 1 patient requiring the advice on the maintenance of oral health
    and the care for thier orthodontic appliance.
Section 3 - Evidence of competence
All candidates will be expected to demonstrate competence during the course
in relation to the following;

  • Casting of study models
  • The taking of clinical photographs
  • The completion of cepthalometric tracing, digitisation and mesuring.
  • Assist in the taking and handling of impressions
  • Contributing with the adjustment and fitting of any orthodontic appliances.
